Kacey Musgraves is one of my favorites. Her song "Sway" on her "Deeper Well" album is one of my favorites. And in this season of life, it's become a personal anthem of sorts.
I've never been really good at just going with the flow, letting life happen, and taking it all one hour at a time. But I'm sure learning. And not out of choice but necessity.
I've worked in nonprofit development for a considerable amount of time. I've driven a large amount of revenue to the space, led and created multi-million-dollar campaigns, and I've loved it. Yes, some of the 20 years felt like dog years, but isn't that true in any professional setting?
Now I find my heart leaning towards a slower pace. My mom is aging, my twins have launched, and my husband and I are entering a new season of life. And it's all calling me to sway - "Like a palm tree in the wind, I won't break, I'll just bend and I'll sway."
The work I'm meant to do will come. Until then, I'll enjoy my coffee on the porch, drop in on LinkedIn from time to time, and give back to the space in a way that feels best to me. I've nominated myself to work on stewardship for a local nonprofit I love, I'll lean into some pro bono work, and I'm looking into teaching.
And it's all teaching me to...sway.
