Viva, Italia!

If you know me at all, then you know that when I'm out of the office, I am OUT. OF. THE. OFFICE.

I don't really know where this originated. Maybe the realization that nonprofit work will always be in need of volunteers, money, board members and on and on and on? Or self-actualization that I work best when I'm recharged and that running on empty gets me - and my organization - nowhere? I don't really know, but I am here for it!

So tomorrow I leave for Italy. I will be packing comfortable walking shoes, Euros and an umbrella but I won't be packing Outlook, Slack or Teams. I'm a segmenter at heart! In nonprofit that's not always easy to do, but when I'm on PTO I'm a fierce segmenter! Integrating Slack while I'm having Italian food at the Trevi Foundation? Um....no.

Your work isn't going anywhere, and the nonprofit work REALLY isn't going anywhere. As long as there is breathing there will be need. And the work of nonprofit REALLY needs YOU. So, we need you to be refreshed, recharged and ready for the next season. In order to do that, take your PTO. Turn off your notifications. Sleep. Breathe. Go to yoga. Whatever it is that YOU need to do to reset your nervous system and intentions.

Also, take some time to determine if you are an integrator or a segmenter! This will be invaluable work in your personal and professional work. Here's a place to start:

Arrivederci!
